Surrey’s Central City office tower to host new, third location for Drop Zone Event to raise funds for Easter Seals
Rappelling 19-storeys from the Central City office tower in Surrey isn’t just for hard-core climbers or rappelers, it’s for the average Joe and Joanne who care for those in need. The 2019 Easter Seals Surrey Drop Zone takes place September 16th and kicks off registration with a special message, “Every day is a challenge for individuals with diverse abilities and Drop Zone reminds us of this challenge and the need for support.”
This adrenaline-pumping fundraising adventure will have participants rappelling down Surrey’s Central City office tower to raise funds for individuals with diverse abilities who benefit from Easter Seals programs and services.
Registration is open for only $50, along with a fundraising commitment of $800. Participants are encouraged to register early and rally friends, colleagues, co-workers, and family to support their fundraising.
“As a city, we are committed to supporting events and initiatives that improve universal access, where people of all abilities can participate fully in city life, including recreation, sport, social and cultural opportunities,” said Tara Roberts, Manager of Support Services and Accessibility with the City of Surrey. “The Easter Seals Drop Zone Event is an excellent way to foster community connections and raise both awareness and funds for people living with disabilities in our community. We are very proud to be hosting this event for the first time in Surrey.”
Over 25% of British Columbians have a disability. That is more than one million people needing access to vital programs, services and support – services that Easter Seals has provided to one million families and counting.
“Easter Seals BC & Yukon is committed to helping improve the quality of life in our communities. It’s our hope that all individuals living with disabilities can live an active life, seek their potential, and contribute to their communities,” says Tracy Lakeman, Interim President and CEO, Easter Seals BC & Yukon. “The best part of our Drop Zone event is that participants get a chance to do the same thing by stepping outside their comfort zone, exploring their potential, and rappelling 19-storeys down Surrey’s Central City. It’s an amazing event to watch and participate in.”
Money raised from Easter Seals Surrey Drop Zone will make a difference in providing families with an affordable, safe place to stay at Easter Seals House when seeking specialized care for loved ones, and gives children, youth and young adults empowering and life-changing experiences at Easter Seals summer camps.
