10-Year Capital Campaign
To reimagine our facilities to support children as they age and all year round, the Society is launching a 10-Year Capital Campaign.
Our plans for the future include new ways to support ALL persons with diverse abilities and their families, and build a more financially secure future for Easter Seals.
Over the next 10 years, it’s our goal to reimagine our current facilities, where possible, into year-round community hubs, offering summer camps for kids of diverse abilities AND new programs for adults that include skills and employment development, social enterprises, housing, and so much more! We are building on our legacy to help children with diverse abilities, supporting them as they age and making the best use of camp facilities.
Shawnigan Lake Camp(us)
Build a new Camp(us) for year-round use
In 2019, Camp Shawnigan Lake will reopen for a summer camp program in August, and we will begin a campaign to redevelop the site into a multi-purpose community hub of programs and services to meet the expanded needs of persons with diverse abilities.
Over the next five years at Camp Shawnigan, supported by a capital campaign, it is our desire to support children with diverse abilities throughout their lifetime by offering our cherished summer camp, potentially new skill development and learning programs, social enterprise work opportunities, social housing, and more.
Winfield Camp(us)
Upgrade for year-round use
In 2019, Camp Winfield will continue to offer its summer camp program in July, and we will begin to work with the community and municipality to begin planning its upgrade and create a new community hub of programs and services to meet the expanded needs of persons with diverse abilities.
Over the next five years at Camp Winfield, supported by a capital campaign, it is our desire to support children with diverse abilities throughout their lifetime by offering our cherished summer camp, potentially new skill development and learning programs, social enterprise work opportunities, social housing, and more.
New Urban Camp(us)
Looking to the future, the Society is considering the consolidation of its programming into one site in the Lower Mainland. With the largest population of persons with diverse abilities being in the Lower Mainland, it is an ideal location for a new community hub to support children with diverse abilities throughout their lifetime by offering a summer day camp program, potentially new skill development and learning programs, social enterprise work opportunities, social housing, and more.
Over the next 10 years, supported by a capital campaign, it is our goal to reimagine and redevelop our Lower Mainland facilities and create a new community hub of programs and services to meet the expanded needs of persons with diverse abilities.
Camp Squamish
Camp Squamish has limited options due to zoning restrictions in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR). For long-term sustainability, Camp Squamish will need a year-round operating model. No longer is it viable to maintain a facility for only 4-5 weeks of summer use. With ALR restrictions, the site has limited development opportunity and the Society’s Board is considering all options, including its sale.
