LEARN MORE
Easter Seals BC/Yukon is a service of the BC Lions Society For Children With Disabilities. As a trusted charity since it began from the vision of the East Vancouver Lions Club, Easter Seals is dedicated to providing programs and services to persons with diverse abilities that help build their self-esteem, self-confidence and sense of independence.
In British Columbia, approximately 926,100 adults between the ages of 15 to 64 have a disability that limits their independence and quality of life.
For many, a disability can affect how they see themselves and how they view their own abilities.
Our Mission:
To inspire communities across B.C. and the Yukon to support,
and enable access for, individuals with disabilities.
Our Vision:
To enable abilities in our communities.
Building a more inclusive world
At Easter Seals BC/Yukon, we are committed to equality throughout our organization. Our unwavering dedication to inclusiveness permeates through all that we do – from the design of our programs and services, to the culture within the workplace and values espoused through our camps.
Our equitable hiring processes welcome applicants of all backgrounds, ensuring that accommodations are offered for applicants as needed during the recruitment process, prioritizing their comfort. We are committed to building an inclusive workforce and environment actively engaged with equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusivity principles. We are committed to building a strong and representative team and encourage applications from members of all communities who are disadvantaged under the BC Human Rights Code.
We recognize that many of our staff, guests at the Easter Seals House and summer camps participants are diverse in their abilities and identities. We strive to find ways to better understanding the experiences of diverse ESBCY participants; addressing the systemic barriers that may preclude the participation of underrepresented groups; and modifying and improving our programs and services to better serve participants, families, and communities with intersecting identities and diverse needs.
Our Future
In 2017 our Board of Directors and Management Team developed a new strategic plan to map out the future for Easter Seals BC & Yukon. Dramatic changes to the charitable landscape, declines in funding and ageing facilities, requires new strategies to ensure the Society can continue to support families and persons of all ages with diverse abilities. And that’s just not for today or next year, but for decades to come.
As we look to the future, we will turn to our valued supporters for input as we reimagine a future where all people with diverse abilities will benefit from Easter Seals BC & Yukon. Sign up to receive updates and learn more about community meetings, committees, and other opportunities to get involved. Times are changing, yet our commitment to helping kids and persons with diverse abilities remains unchanged.
We need your support more than ever. Please help enable abilities in our communities by donating today.
