There were over 200 superheroes in BC skies throughout the month of September, spanning from Victoria to Kelowna, ready to take Easter Seals’ Drop Zone Challenge. Facing their fears, they rappelled down skyscrapers, while friends, family, colleagues and even passersby who stopped to look on cheered for them below.
Superheroes were on the ground too – 15 corporate businesses made investments in their communities as sponsors, over 50 volunteers shared their time, and a small team at Easter Seals Headquarters spent months planning. All coming together to help raise over $300,000 in five separate communities, helping make the 2023 Easter Seals’ Drop Zone Challenge the best year yet.
Did you know that over 926,000 British Columbians over the age of 15 have a disability? That’s 25 percent of the population. They are why we do the Drop Zone Challenge.
The Drop Zone Challenge is why we can provide vital programming and services such as camps, job-training, respite for caregivers and parents, and affordable lodging at Easter Seals House for families living out of town needing medical assistance.
Many of our programs are essential to individuals and families as they help children, youth and adults with diverse abilities become more confident, build self-esteem, overcome barriers, and ultimately become more independent. Together we are creating a more inclusive, accessible and equitable world.
Drop Zone started in Vancouver 18 years ago, growing to now five locations this year, including Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Victoria and Kelowna. Since 2005, Drop Zone events across Canada have collectively raised over $17 million, and over 11,000 brave superheroes have stepped off the edge in support of Easter Seals.
