It’s day 2 of our 12 Days of Campmas and today we’re sharing Lydia’s story.
“I was in tears when my mom left me at camp my first year. It took me until the third year of camp to get me warmed up and by end of the week I didn’t want to go back home. Camp is a place for me to go away for a week with no parents, no pets, no siblings. Now at age 26 I hope to attend to age 49. My favourite thing to do at camp is to pull pranks. My mom would describe camp as a place where she can leave me with responsibility of counselors and nurses.” ~ Lydia, age 26
Lydia, who has a rare genetic disorder called Kabuki Syndrome, first attended Easter Seals Camp Shawnigan in the summer of 2009 at 14 years old, and has been attending ever since.
Thank you, Lydia, for sharing your time at camp with us!
Our 75th birthday is coming up in 2022. If you have a story to share about Easter Seals BC/Yukon we’d love to hear it and share it. Please email jfines@eastersealsbcy.ca
